Context
The redesign moved thousands of pages into a new CMS with a single taxonomy and a new information architecture. Key research questions had to be answered, and many design decisions validated with users, before the site could launch.
Round 1: structure
8 one-hour workshops with 48 participants across 4 regions. Card sorting in Miro, tree testing in Optimal Workshop and dot voting showed which labels people understood, the best order for the information architecture and the most common homepage tasks.
Round 2: experience
14 in-depth interviews with moderated usability testing across the whole user journey, to find specific UX and UI issues in context.
Round 3: homepage
Two homepage concepts, built from the earlier findings and tested with users.
Beyond the scope
I designed the final homepage and presented it to the client as direction for development. With the Google team I also analyzed community building around the service and outlined a community strategy.
